Our monthly membership dues are $70.
New members have a one-time sign on fee of $100.
Please eTransfer fees to johanus@swordsmanship.ca or pay via cash or cheque.
All fees go towards expenses for club gear, weapons, and venue rentals. As a bonus, you will gain access to our library of manuals, treatises, and a T-shirt of your very own. We also have member only events, including an annual workshop. None of our members are paid for their work; we are all volunteers! HEMA gear is not cheap, so we encourage new members to make use of our club equipment; it is part of what you pay for, after all!
About the Academy of European Swordsmanship
The Academy of European Swordsmanship (AES) is the oldest HEMA Club in Canada, starting out as a university student club in 1994. Today the AES is a registered non-profit. We continue our goal of learning Western Martial Arts and spreading the knowledge to those who are interested. We participate in several tournaments through the year, and sponsor our own. We run workshops for our members, bringing in practitioners from around the world, splitting costs accordingly, and will occasionally send members to other clubs to learn from them.
Our Motto: Teach. Lead. Inspire.
We choose to teach what we’ve learned and discovered from our experiences, regardless of age, gender, experience or background. We include members as young as 11 and have members in their late 60’s. If we are travelling to other areas and clubs, it is expected that we will teach, if asked. With our history, and showing a positive example and good attitude, we strive to inspire others in the martial arts community and the world as a whole.
