First Swordsmanship class free

If it is you first time, come visit us at the Fulton Place Community League on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm for your first HEMA lesson.

We’ll hand you a sword and we can practice together!

Why Us

We practice the full range of Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA), with a special love given to the sword! Emphasis is placed on effective real-world techniques described in historical arms treatises. You can expect to study all period weapons including pole arms, swords, daggers, and hand-to-hand fighting. While we focus on the teachings of the great masters, Johannes Liecthenauer and Joachim Meyer, we are not afraid to learn from other sources.

If you seek an authentic martial arts experience in an inclusive atmosphere that emphasizes real-world techniques over stage fighting and repetitive forms, look no further than the Academy of European Swordsmanship.

Edmonton Class Schedule Updates

Summer is here, and that means outdoor classes are available on Sundays! These classes are in the park at Westview Village in the west end of the city, starting at 9:00 am, depending on weather. Classes will run every week with the following exceptions: July 20, August 10, 16, and 31. This will continue as long as the weather holds. Sunday classes are “pay what you can”, so that even those who cannot afford a martial arts class can get some exposure to our art. Come on out! Invite your friends and family!

Edmonton School Updates

Well, it’s been an active year. We ran a wonderful tournament on March 1, 2014 and had some amazing competition there. The new knife fighting rules seem to work quite well. And it amazed people at how fast knife fights really are! The only difference we’ll make next year is that we’re likely to take those to seven points instead of five. Excellent judging! And stellar competition.
