First Swordsmanship class free
If it is you first time, come visit us at the Fulton Place Community League on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm for your first HEMA lesson.
We’ll hand you a sword and we can practice together!
Why Us
We practice the full range of Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA), with a special love given to the sword! Emphasis is placed on effective real-world techniques described in historical arms treatises. You can expect to study all period weapons including pole arms, swords, daggers, and hand-to-hand fighting. While we focus on the teachings of the great masters, Johannes Liecthenauer and Joachim Meyer, we are not afraid to learn from other sources.
If you seek an authentic martial arts experience in an inclusive atmosphere that emphasizes real-world techniques over stage fighting and repetitive forms, look no further than the Academy of European Swordsmanship.

Sunday Classes Summer Schedule
Sundays classes will continue to be at 2pm. They will take place outdoors at the south side of the Pollard Meadows Elementary School on 48 street and 18 avenue (best to get in off of 50th street and 19th ave). Fees for summer are “pay what you feel is fair”. Normally classes are $60 a month for members, but since this is weather dependent and we have no rental costs (only insurance and other overheads), we thought this was a fair way to do it. Sunday classes concentrate on unarmed and small weapons combat. Here you can learn practical self... Continue reading→
Edmonton Sunday Classes at New Location
For the month of March our Sunday class in Edmonton will be held at Knotwood Community League, 445 Knottwood Rd W, starting at 2pm and ending at 4 pm (same times as before). Knotwood is a rather small hall that can barely fit us into the space required, therefore we are still seeking a new place, which we will hopefully find by April 1. If you know of a place that has a reasonable rental rate where we could hold these small classes, please contact Johanus in the Edmonton chapter.
New Site, New Look
Welcome to the new Academy of European Swordsmanship site, featuring WordPress as our CMS. Alas, there will be no downloads for the time being and gone is the ability to sign up to access WMA fight manuals. We will continue to post student-created articles which we hope will be of interest to you. Academy students should now look to their instructor for study guides and ranking tests moving forward. We hope you enjoy the new site, feel free to leave us your comments.
